Frequently asked questions
What does a NIE number look like?

A NIE number (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) is a unique identification number assigned to non-Spanish and non-residents in Spain presented on a A4 document which includes the individual’s personal information and the assigned NIE number.
Can I live in Spain without a NIE?
No matter what you do in Spain, you will need a NIE number. For many legal procedures like buying a property or opening a bank account, you don’t need to be a resident in the country. That is when you will get a non-resident NIE.
What documents do I have to provide?
Power of Attorney stamped and signed by a Notary of your choice.
Passport copy of the two main bio pages, stamped and signed by a Notary of your choice. A copy of your full passport or resident permit will be required if you are a non-resident EU citizen and process your documents within the EU.
An Apostille de la Haye is a must if you’re processing your documents outside of Spain, for your documents to be valid internationally.
What is a Power of Attorney (POA)?
A fiscal address in Spain is essential for autónomos. This address will serve as your official location for tax and legal correspondence. Don’t have one? We can help!
How will I receive my NIE number?
Once we receive your NIE document, we will scan it and send a digital copy to the email address you provided. If you have also paid for the shipping costs, we will expedite the delivery of your official NIE document to your provided address.
What is an Apostille de la Haye?
An “Apostille de la Haye” refers to the Apostille certificate issued under the Hague Convention of 1961. This certificate serves as a specific type of authentication that validates the authenticity of public documents issued in one member country, making them legally valid and recognizable in other member countries.
The primary purpose of an Apostille de la Haye is to streamline the process of legalizing documents for international use.
What happens if I stay longer than 90 days?
If you are a non-EU citizen and stay in Spain for more than 90 days within a 180-day period, you will violate the 90/180-day rule and face penalties. These penalties can include paying a fine, leaving the country, and being banned from entering the Schengen Area for a specified period.
If you are an EU-citizen, you must apply for an EU Certificate.
